ABOUT MR KEVIN TURNER MA DM FRCS(UROL)
Urologists treat conditions of the urinary system (kidneys and bladder) in both men and women, and conditions of the penis, scrotum and prostate in men. Kevin Turner has been a Urology specialist for more than 15 years and has worked as a consultant Urologist in Bournemouth since 2007. He trained at some of the premier urology units in the world (Oxford, Edinburgh, and Melbourne) and he has continued to develop his interests and expertise as a consultant. His passion is to blend first class contemporary knowledge with an empathetic jargon-free communication style, and to offer state-of-the art surgical techniques.
Mr Turner offers a full general urology service for men and women. In addition, he has particular interests in the following areas:

- Prostate cancer and robotic radical prostatectomy
- Bladder cancer

- Keyhole (laparaoscopic) urological surgery

Mr Turner's Career & Achievements
Mr Turner studied medicine as an undergraduate in Cambridge (where he achieved a double First-Class degree) and he studied clinical medicine in Oxford. He trained in Urological Surgery in Oxford, Edinburgh, and Melbourne before being appointed as a consultant in Bournemouth in 2007.
Whilst still a surgeon in training, Mr Turner was elected as an Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons for his research in to kidney cancer: His thesis was awarded the prestigious European Association of Urology Thesis Award.
Mr Turner is co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Urological Surgery as well as authoring numerous research papers and book chapters.
Mr Turner is an examiner for the FRCS Urology examination – the final examination taken by urologists before they can apply for a consultant post.
Mr Turner was trained in laparoscopic (keyhole) radical prostatectomy by Professor Jens-Uwe Stolzenberg in Leipzig and has now performed or participated in more than 200 laparoscopic radical prostatectomies . Professor Stolzenburg is widely regarded as one of the leading laparoscopic urological surgeons in the world.
In 2013, Mr Turner led the acquisition of a da Vinci robot by Royal Bournemouth Hospital - the only surgical robot in Dorset. He was trained in robotic radical prostatectomy by Professor Stolzenburg, and by Professor Alex Haese from the Martini Clinic in Hamburg. The Martini Clinic is the busiest radical prostatectomy centre in the world, performing more than 2000 radical prostatectomies a year.

Aside from being a Consultant Urologist
Mr Turner lives in Wimborne and is married to a teacher. He is a committed Christian. Much of his time is spent being Dad to teenage twins, looking after an old house, trying to keep fit, and being involved in the local church.
